Tutor Facts

Greene’s tutors are selected through a ten-stage application process.  Once we are happy that all these stages have been satisfactorily completed, tutors are then entered onto our register.

We look for a range of qualities in our final selection:

  • Experience of the tutorial method
  • Enthusiasm
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to understand and deal sympathetically with different learning processes
  • Ability to meet examination criteria

Statistics about Greene’s Tutors
Each year, we accept approximately 200 tutor applications, with the following results:

  • 45 % of applicants are registered as ‘approved’
  • 93 different subjects are on the profiles of approved tutors
  • 70 % of tutors have a first degree from a British university
  • 45 % of tutors have a first degree from Oxford or Cambridge
  • 40 % of tutors are studying for a secondary degree or doctorate at Oxford
  • 85 % offer distance learning in addition to face-to-face tuition
  • 50 % male and 50% female
  • 77 % 20-40 years old; 23 % 41-65 years old
