On 27th June we held our Summer Drinks Party to thank our tutors for their tremendous support throughout the academic year. As it turned out, it couldn’t have been less like a midsummer’s evening. The skies were dark and the rain was torrential. Nonetheless, some sixty tutors braved the elements and everyone seemed in very sunny spirits.
Greene’s tutors are possessed of numerous qualities, but one of the most important is their ability to communicate effectively with so many different types of people. This is a great quality if you want to have a good party! The room was incredibly noisy as people reacquainted themselves with one another or simply introduced themselves to each other for the first time. For many of our in-house staff, it was an opportunity to relax in the company of people who have worked incredibly hard alongside them to ensure that our students have the best possible experience at Greene’s.
Penny and Rebecca had spent the day at Penny’s house preparing ‘nibbles’ and arrived with a car weighted down with delicious things to eat. We managed to transfer everything to the Common Room without getting it soaked and Penny took off around the block to try to find somewhere legal to park. This is no mean feat in the centre of Oxford and the traffic was appalling as well. It was particularly gratifying that tutors braved not only the elements, but also nose-to-tail traffic to come and join us at the party.
Guests arrived promptly and food and drink were consumed with a great deal of appreciation. The atmosphere was fantastic and it was such a pleasure for all of us at Greene’s to get to know some of our tutors a little better. The party must have been a success, because it began at 6.00 p.m. and the last guests left at around 1.30 a.m.!
A massive ‘thank you’ to all of our wonderful tutors and we are already planning the Greene’s Christmas Drinks Party!
