Clearing 2017 – the best approach to your clearing call

It is results day and you have missed out on your grades. What is the best way to approach clearing?

Your Clearing call could be an interview, so organisation is key. Here are some essential tips:

Before the call

Make sure you have to hand:

- Your UCAS Track username and password

- Your UCAS Personal ID

- Your address and postcode

- Your GCSE and A-level results

Have pen and paper to write down names, numbers and times to call back

Re-read and print out your personal statement.

During the call

  • Speak clearly and confidently – be honest about why you think you did not achieve your grades, if asked

  • Note names, e-mails and direct phone numbers in case you have to follow-up

  • Be enthusiastic – use examples to demonstrate your interest for the subject area

  • If you have a verbal offer from the university you want to go to, go to UCAS Track to do all the necessary follow-up

  • Sort out accommodation

After the call

Think everything through and go through your options. It is important not to rush into something before thinking it through first. See what options are available in order to make an informed decision. Good luck!
