Alex began his academic career began when he gained a B.Sc. from the City of London Polytechnic in Geography in 1989. From there he went to University College, London to complete a M.Sc. in Micro-palaeontology. Remaining at University College for his doctoral research, he was then awarded his Ph.D. in Geological Sciences.
Alex has published a large number of papers and articles in academic journals. He has also had an impressive career in commercial geology before entering teaching. However, with his passion for communicating his fascination for the Earth, Alex then turned from commerce and research to teaching Geology, and Physical and Human Geography, and has subsequently taught at GCSE and A level at a number of prestigious secondary schools. He has been an examiner at A level for the AQA examination board, and so can effectively identify the strengths and weaknesses of students’ work.
Alex has many years of tutoring experience in Geography, Environmental Science, Marine Science, Geology and Sociology and continues to work as a lecturer for the M.Sc. course in Applied and Exploration Micro-palaeontology at the University of Birmingham.
