Mr. Guy Nobes, M.A. (Oxon)
Greene’s college career and guidance adviser
Mr. Guy Nobes studied Classics, and subsequently English Literature and Language, at the University of Oxford, graduating with a B.A. in English. After graduation, Mr. Nobes became an English teacher and a department Head of English, teaching at schools in the U.K. and internationally. After a career teaching English in a number of prestigious independent schools, he was appointed Head of the Guidance Department at one of the U.K.’s leading independent schools, Marlborough College, in Wiltshire. In the course of his professional life, Mr. Nobes has written extensively on careers and university advice, and is author of 60 Successful Personal Statements (now in its second edition) and The Personal Statement Planner, used by over 15,000 students annually. In addition, he is the editor of The Careers Directory and The Personal Development Guide, and also the on-line Degree Course Descriptions, each used by over 50,000 pupils, parents and professionals during every university application cycle. He is a member of various advisory boards, including UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service), an independent charity providing information, advice, and admissions services to some 700,000 university and college applicants every year.
Mr. Nobes has been in his role at Marlborough College for nineteen years, helping students find the best possible courses and universities, and assisting them as they put together the strongest application possible. Mr. Nobes has now joined Greene’s part-time in a similar capacity, and we are very fortunate that our students are now able to benefit from his life-long experience and considerable expertise.
