Foundation year

You may need a preparation and transition year before starting with A level study or the Geoscience Diploma.

Enrolling in our one year foundation course can help ensure that your proficiency in English language is sufficient for effective academic study; that your study skills are well enough developed to benefit from the tutorial method of learning; and that your academic level is high enough for you to succeed in A level study or on the Geoscience Diploma.

Investing in the foundation year will give you additional time to develop a strong academic base.   This may help provide you with the depth required to demonstrate your potential by achieving strong academic results and obtaining admission to a high quality university.

Progression from the foundation year to either A level study or the Geoscience Diploma is by internal assessment.

For students on the foundation year there are two routes:

Route 1: three group tutorials per week in each of their chosen A level subjects; or in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry if they are preparing for the Geoscience Diploma; plus an EFL course of five group tutorials and two individual tutorials per week.  Should students’ English language ability exceed an IELTS level of 6.0, they should probably choose route 2;

Route 2:  a course of study skills, independent project work and an additional individual tutorial per week in their chosen A level subjects.
