A levels are internationally recognised qualifications. Universities in many countries will accept three A level A-C grades as meeting the admissions criteria across a wide range of courses.
A levels are all taught in small groups of shared tuition.
At Greene’s there is a core list of CIE A levels – shown in the table below – from which students can chose any three.
Core A level subjects
Mathematics
English Literature
Further Mathematics
Economics
Biology
History
Chemistry
Geography
Physics
French
Psychology
Science A levels also require additional time for practical work – typically about three hours per week.
CIE A level exams take place in November and May/June of each year and each A level course is divided into two parts: A first year part called “AS” and a second year part called “A level”. Students generally take their AS exams at the end of their first year of A level study and their A level exams at the end of their second year. If needed, AS exams can be retaken the following November or May/June during the student’s second year of A level study at Greene’s.
Additional CIE A level choices available include: Business, German, Global Perspectives, Law, Portuguese, Sociology, Spanish.
Greene’s can also accept students for A level subjects that are not offered by CIE but are offered by other A level examination boards such as AQA, Edexcel or OCR.
Fees for these additional subjects and examination boards are generally higher and all tuition is individual. For several of these additional subjects availability is dependent on suitable facilities and tutor arrangements being possible. Fee supplements will be due for subjects that require coursework and materials & equipment.
When you come to Greene’s, the College Principal will meet you for an initial interview and assessment to discuss your interests and goals and confirm your selection of A level subjects. Subject assessments may be set up to determine the degree of support you will need and the corresponding fee. The College Principal will then assign you to a Personal Tutor who will be your academic mentor throughout your course. Our Personal Tutors are responsible for providing you with strategic guidance with your studies, monitoring your academic progress through weekly meetings, helping you to develop your independent study skills and ensuring your general welfare.
